AR Menu With No App to Download
The biggest barrier to AR used to be "download our app". Modern AR menus remove it entirely — guests scan a QR code and the 3D experience opens in the browser.
Why "no app" matters so much
Asking a guest to download an app at the table is where most restaurant tech dies. People won’t install something for a single meal. If your AR menu needs an app, almost no one will use it.
The modern approach removes that step completely. The guest scans the QR code, the menu opens in their browser, and AR works immediately — no install, no account, no friction.
What is WebAR?
WebAR means augmented reality that runs in the web browser instead of a dedicated app. When a guest taps "View in AR", the phone hands the 3D model to its built-in AR viewer: Quick Look on iPhone and Scene Viewer on Android.
Both of these are part of the operating system on modern phones, which is why the guest never installs anything — the capability is already on their device.
What the guest actually does
Scan the QR code → the menu opens → tap a dish to see it in 3D → tap "View in AR" → point the phone at the table → the dish appears life-size. From start to AR, it is a few seconds and zero downloads.
Does it work on every phone?
It works on the large majority of phones in use today, because Quick Look and Scene Viewer are standard on modern iPhones and Android devices. Guests on older devices still get the full menu with photos and prices — they just may not get the AR placement step.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do guests really not need to install anything?
Correct. The AR menu runs as WebAR in the browser, using the AR viewer already built into the phone (Quick Look on iPhone, Scene Viewer on Android). There is nothing to download.
What happens on a phone that doesn’t support AR?
The guest still sees the full digital menu with photos, prices, allergens and languages. Only the "place it on the table" AR step is unavailable, and the rest works normally.
Is WebAR reliable enough for a busy restaurant?
Yes. Because it relies on the phone’s built-in viewers and a simple web link, there is no app to break or update — guests just scan and go.
